Joe has finished his first board with Essence Surf's shaping school, making a 7'8" x 23 1/2" x 3" Funboard. Joe has named his board "THE JUMBO EGG-WITH A SIDE OF BACON". Joe started construction August 2nd and completed the entire board in less than 2 weeks. He showed great commitment, and patience, partially due to the fact that he had to be back at school by the 16th. Med School that is, soon I will have to call him Doctor Joe.

Surreal-G has had the privilege of surfing with Joe the weekend of the 13th during a rare summer swell at Manasquan inlet, and took great pride as Joe dropped into some monster waves and cruised the backsides lines while grabbing the rail. Joe has already looked into investing in his own board building equipment, and hopes to continue surfboard construction in the future. Since Joe's Classes he has been shaping boards fairly consistently and has recently moved back into the Essence Surf home base in Totowa to build a series of boards under his VARCO LABS label. These boards are coming out great and will be shown in the gallery when they are done. Joe V and some of the Essence Surf crew will be taking a month long trip to Costa this April 2008. Hopefully we will get some of those pictures up on the site as well. |
