Nick Salerno's Shaping School Page

Nick completed his board in a 6 session period of time and has named it the "Flying Fish". A deep V fish tail measuring in at 5'10" x 20 1/2" x 2 3/4". Since no blanks where available in this size at the time Nick had to cut this board from a 6'9" blank. A lot of additional work was done in getting the correct shape and rocker from such a large blank. Taking it in stride, Nick kept a good pace during the shaping process and showed a great eye for detail during his final sanding of the blank. Since Nick whished to do the glassing, as well as the hot coating in single sessions, we sat around during the dry times, had a beer, and shot the breeze. I always enjoy getting to know my students better during these times and creating friendships.
